George MacMartin was born in Berwick, Scotland. In his youth George MacMartin started working in his fathers Still making the finest uisge beatha, meaning "Water of Life" in Scottish Gaelic. This distilled alcoholic beverage was made from various grains such as malted barley, corn etc. distilled in pot stills. This was the beginning of  Whisky. The family of MacMartin had a reputation distilling the finest Whisky in and around the small town of Tullich near the Banks of the River Spey. At that time in order to avoid the heavy taxes from England and the tax collectors they kept their business small. At the beginning of 19th century England cancelled the various taxes of Scotch whisky and carried out the new tax regulations based on the distillation license for Scotch whisky. Due to the new regulations the Scotch Whisky could be developed further. In the middle of the 19th century George MacMartin handed the running of their Distillery to his eldest son Angus George. Angus learned very hard to master their family distillation techniques and even developed the 3 times distillation process. In 1861 Angus established the single malt brand-MacMartin. Because of the quality, thanks to the local quality of the spring water and barley as well, it quickly became popular throughout Scotland and beyond its shores, known for its quality and distinctive taste. Since then, till today MacMartin respects the traditional techniques of distillation and the time required to merge in hand crafted oak barrels, brings you to the wonderful moment of enjoying Scotlands uisge beatha.
